Surah Al-Fajr in Arabic and English

1. 1 Al-Fajr 89:1

   وَالْفَجْرِۙ

   Transliteration

   Waalfajri

   Translation

   By the dawn

2. 2 Al-Fajr 89:2

   وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍۙ

   Transliteration

   Walayālin ʿashrin

   Translation

   And [by] ten nights

3. 3 Al-Fajr 89:3

   وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِۙ

   Transliteration

   Waalshshafʿi waalwatri

   Translation

   And [by] the even [number] and the odd

4. 4 Al-Fajr 89:4

   وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا يَسْرِۚ

   Transliteration

   Waallayli ithā yasri

   Translation

   And [by] the night when it passes,

5. 5 Al-Fajr 89:5

   هَلْ فٖي ذٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذٖي حِجْرٍؕ

   Transliteration

   Hal fee thālika qasamun lithee ḥijrin

   Translation

   Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?

6. 6 Al-Fajr 89:6

   اَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Alam tara kayfa faʿala rabbuka biʿādin

   Translation

   Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad -

7. 7 Al-Fajr 89:7

   اِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Irama thāti alʿimādi

   Translation

   [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,

8. 8 Al-Fajr 89:8

   اَلَّتٖي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Allatee lam yukhlaq mithluhā fee albilādi

   Translation

   The likes of whom had never been created in the land?

9. 9 Al-Fajr 89:9

   وَثَمُودَ الَّذٖينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Wathamooda allatheena jāboo alṣṣakhra bialwādi

   Translation

   And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?

10. 10 Al-Fajr 89:10

    وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْاَوْتَادِۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Wafirʿawna thee alawtādi

    Translation

    And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? -

11. 11 Al-Fajr 89:11

    اَلَّذٖينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Allatheena ṭaghaw fee albilādi

    Translation

    [All of] whom oppressed within the lands

12. 12 Al-Fajr 89:12

    فَاَكْثَرُوا فٖيهَا الْفَسَادَۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Faaktharoo feehā alfasāda

    Translation

    And increased therein the corruption.

13. 13 Al-Fajr 89:13

    فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Faṣabba ʿalayhim rabbuka sawṭa ʿathābin

    Translation

    So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

14. 14 Al-Fajr 89:14

    اِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِؕ

    Transliteration

    Inna rabbaka labialmirṣādi

    Translation

    Indeed, your Lord is in observation.

15. 15 Al-Fajr 89:15

    فَاَمَّا الْاِنْسَانُ اِذَا مَا ابْتَلٰيهُ رَبُّهُ فَاَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبّٖٓي اَكْرَمَنِؕ

    Transliteration

    Faammā alinsānu ithā mā ibtalāhu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaʿʿamahu fayaqoolu rabbee akramani

    Translation

    And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."

16. 16 Al-Fajr 89:16

    وَاَمَّٓا اِذَا مَا ابْتَلٰيهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبّٖٓي اَهَانَنِۚ

    Transliteration

    Waammā ithā mā ibtalāhu faqadara ʿalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahānani

    Translation

    But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."

17. 17 Al-Fajr 89:17

    كَلَّا بَلْ لَا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتٖيمَۙ

    Transliteration

    Kallā bal lā tukrimoona alyateema

    Translation

    No! But you do not honor the orphan

18. 18 Al-Fajr 89:18

    وَلَا تَحَٓاضُّونَ عَلٰى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكٖينِۙ

    Transliteration

    Walā taḥāḏḏoona ʿalā ṭaʿāmi almiskeeni

    Translation

    And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.

19. 19 Al-Fajr 89:19

    وَتَاْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ اَكْلًا لَمًّاۙ

    Transliteration

    Watakuloona altturātha aklan lammān

    Translation

    And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,

20. 20 Al-Fajr 89:20

    وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّاۜ

    Transliteration

    Watuḥibboona almāla ḥubban jammān

    Translation

    And you love wealth with immense love.

21. 21 Al-Fajr 89:21

    كَلَّٓا اِذَا دُكَّتِ الْاَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّاۙ

    Transliteration

    Kallā ithā dukkati alarḏu dakkan dakkān

    Translation

    No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed -

22. 22 Al-Fajr 89:22

    وَجَٓاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّاۚ

    Transliteration

    Wajāa rabbuka waalmalaku ṣaffan ṣaffān

    Translation

    And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,

23. 23 Al-Fajr 89:23

    وَجٖٓيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْاِنْسَانُ وَاَنّٰى لَهُ الذِّكْرٰىؕ

    Transliteration

    Wajeea yawmaithin bijahannama yawmaithin yatathakkaru alinsānu waannā lahu alththikrā

    Translation

    And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance?

24. 24 Al-Fajr 89:24

    يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنٖي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتٖيۚ

    Transliteration

    Yaqoolu yā laytanee qaddamtu liḥayātee

    Translation

    He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."

25. 25 Al-Fajr 89:25

    فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُٓ اَحَدٌۙ

    Transliteration

    Fayawmaithin lā yuʿaththibu ʿathābahu aḥadun

    Translation

    So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,

26. 26 Al-Fajr 89:26

    وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُٓ اَحَدٌؕ

    Transliteration

    Walā yoothiqu wathāqahu aḥadun

    Translation

    And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].

27. 27 Al-Fajr 89:27

    يَٓا اَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُࣗ

    Transliteration

    Yā ayyatuhā alnnafsu almuṭmainnatu

    Translation

    [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,

28. 28 Al-Fajr 89:28

    اِرْجِعٖٓي اِلٰى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةًۚ

    Transliteration

    Irjiʿee ilā rabbiki rāḏiyatan marḏiyyatan

    Translation

    Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],

29. 29 Al-Fajr 89:29

    فَادْخُلٖي فٖي عِبَادٖيۙ

    Transliteration

    Faodkhulee fee ʿibādee

    Translation

    And enter among My [righteous] servants

30. 30 Al-Fajr 89:30

    وَادْخُلٖي جَنَّتٖي

    Transliteration

    Waodkhulee jannatee

    Translation

    And enter My Paradise."
