Surah Al-Ghaashiya in Arabic and English

1. 1 Al-Ghaashiya 88:1

   هَلْ اَتٰيكَ حَدٖيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِؕ

   Transliteration

   Hal atāka ḥadeethu alghāshiyati

   Translation

   Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?

2. 2 Al-Ghaashiya 88:2

   وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌۙ

   Transliteration

   Wujoohun yawmaithin khāshiʿatun

   Translation

   [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,

3. 3 Al-Ghaashiya 88:3

   عَامِلَةٌ نَاصِبَةٌۙ

   Transliteration

   ʿāmilatun nāṣibatun

   Translation

   Working [hard] and exhausted.

4. 4 Al-Ghaashiya 88:4

   تَصْلٰى نَارًا حَامِيَةًۙ

   Transliteration

   Taṣlā nāran ḥāmiyatan

   Translation

   They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.

5. 5 Al-Ghaashiya 88:5

   تُسْقٰى مِنْ عَيْنٍ اٰنِيَةٍؕ

   Transliteration

   Tusqā min ʿaynin āniyatin

   Translation

   They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

6. 6 Al-Ghaashiya 88:6

   لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ اِلَّا مِنْ ضَرٖيعٍۙ

   Transliteration

   Laysa lahum ṭaʿāmun illā min ḏareeʿin

   Translation

   For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant

7. 7 Al-Ghaashiya 88:7

   لَا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنٖي مِنْ جُوعٍؕ

   Transliteration

   Lā yusminu walā yughnee min jooʿin

   Translation

   Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.

8. 8 Al-Ghaashiya 88:8

   وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاعِمَةٌۙ

   Transliteration

   Wujoohun yawmaithin nāʿimatun

   Translation

   [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.

9. 9 Al-Ghaashiya 88:9

   لِسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌۙ

   Transliteration

   Lisaʿyihā rāḏiyatun

   Translation

   With their effort [they are] satisfied

10. 10 Al-Ghaashiya 88:10

    فٖي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۙ

    Transliteration

    Fee jannatin ʿāliyatin

    Translation

    In an elevated garden,

11. 11 Al-Ghaashiya 88:11

    لَا تَسْمَعُ فٖيهَا لَاغِيَةًؕ

    Transliteration

    Lā tasmaʿu feehā lāghiyatan

    Translation

    Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.

12. 12 Al-Ghaashiya 88:12

    فٖيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌۘ

    Transliteration

    Feehā ʿaynun jāriyatun

    Translation

    Within it is a flowing spring.

13. 13 Al-Ghaashiya 88:13

    فٖيهَا سُرُرٌ مَرْفُوعَةٌۙ

    Transliteration

    Feehā sururun marfooʿatun

    Translation

    Within it are couches raised high

14. 14 Al-Ghaashiya 88:14

    وَاَكْوَابٌ مَوْضُوعَةٌۙ

    Transliteration

    Waakwābun mawḏooʿatun

    Translation

    And cups put in place

15. 15 Al-Ghaashiya 88:15

    وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌۙ

    Transliteration

    Wanamāriqu maṣfoofatun

    Translation

    And cushions lined up

16. 16 Al-Ghaashiya 88:16

    وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌؕ

    Transliteration

    Wazarābiyyu mabthoothatun

    Translation

    And carpets spread around.

17. 17 Al-Ghaashiya 88:17

    اَفَلَا يَنْظُرُونَ اِلَى الْاِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْࣞ

    Transliteration

    Afalā yanthuroona ilā alibili kayfa khuliqat

    Translation

    Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?

18. 18 Al-Ghaashiya 88:18

    وَاِلَى السَّمَٓاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْࣞ

    Transliteration

    Wailā alssamāi kayfa rufiʿat

    Translation

    And at the sky - how it is raised?

19. 19 Al-Ghaashiya 88:19

    وَاِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْࣞ

    Transliteration

    Wailā aljibāli kayfa nuṣibat

    Translation

    And at the mountains - how they are erected?

20. 20 Al-Ghaashiya 88:20

    وَاِلَى الْاَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْࣞ

    Transliteration

    Wailā alarḏi kayfa suṭiḥat

    Translation

    And at the earth - how it is spread out?

21. 21 Al-Ghaashiya 88:21

    فَذَكِّرْ اِنَّـمَٓا اَنْتَ مُذَكِّرٌؕ

    Transliteration

    Fathakkir innamā anta muthakkirun

    Translation

    So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.

22. 22 Al-Ghaashiya 88:22

    لَسْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِمُصَيْطِرٍۙ

    Transliteration

    Lasta ʿalayhim bimuṣayṭirin

    Translation

    You are not over them a controller.

23. 23 Al-Ghaashiya 88:23

    اِلَّا مَنْ تَوَلّٰى وَكَفَرَۙ

    Transliteration

    Illā man tawallā wakafara

    Translation

    However, he who turns away and disbelieves -

24. 24 Al-Ghaashiya 88:24

    فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللّٰهُ الْعَذَابَ الْاَكْبَرَؕ

    Transliteration

    Fayuʿaththibuhu Allāhu alʿathāba alakbara

    Translation

    Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.

25. 25 Al-Ghaashiya 88:25

    اِنَّ اِلَيْنَٓا اِيَابَهُمْۙ

    Transliteration

    Inna ilaynā iyābahum

    Translation

    Indeed, to Us is their return.

26. 26 Al-Ghaashiya 88:26

    ثُمَّ اِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُمْ

    Transliteration

    Thumma inna ʿalaynā ḥisābahum

    Translation

    Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
