Surah Ash-Shams in Arabic and English

1. 1 Ash-Shams 91:1

   وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waalshshamsi waḏuḥāhā

   Translation

   By the sun and its brightness

2. 2 Ash-Shams 91:2

   وَالْقَمَرِ اِذَا تَلٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waalqamari ithā talāhā

   Translation

   And [by] the moon when it follows it

3. 3 Ash-Shams 91:3

   وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا جَلّٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waalnnahāri ithā jallāhā

   Translation

   And [by] the day when it displays it

4. 4 Ash-Shams 91:4

   وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا يَغْشٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waallayli ithā yaghshāhā

   Translation

   And [by] the night when it covers it

5. 5 Ash-Shams 91:5

   وَالسَّمَٓاءِ وَمَا بَنٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waalssamāi wamā banāhā

   Translation

   And [by] the sky and He who constructed it

6. 6 Ash-Shams 91:6

   وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا طَحٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waalarḏi wamā ṭaḥāhā

   Translation

   And [by] the earth and He who spread it

7. 7 Ash-Shams 91:7

   وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوّٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Wanafsin wamā sawwāhā

   Translation

   And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it

8. 8 Ash-Shams 91:8

   فَاَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Faalhamahā fujoorahā wataqwāhā

   Translation

   And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,

9. 9 Ash-Shams 91:9

   قَدْ اَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكّٰيهَاۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Qad aflaḥa man zakkāhā

   Translation

   He has succeeded who purifies it,

10. 10 Ash-Shams 91:10

    وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسّٰيهَاؕ

    Transliteration

    Waqad khāba man dassāhā

    Translation

    And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].

11. 11 Ash-Shams 91:11

    كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوٰيهَاۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Kaththabat thamoodu biṭaghwāhā

    Translation

    Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,

12. 12 Ash-Shams 91:12

    اِذِ انْبَعَثَ اَشْقٰيهَاۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Ithi inbaʿatha ashqāhā

    Translation

    When the most wretched of them was sent forth.

13. 13 Ash-Shams 91:13

    فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ نَاقَةَ اللّٰهِ وَسُقْيٰيهَاࣞ

    Transliteration

    Faqāla lahum rasoolu Allāhi nāqata Allāhi wasuqyāhā

    Translation

    And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink."

14. 14 Ash-Shams 91:14

    فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَاۙۖ فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوّٰيهَاۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Fakaththaboohu faʿaqaroohā fadamdama ʿalayhim rabbuhum bithanbihim fasawwāhā

    Translation

    But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them].

15. 15 Ash-Shams 91:15

    وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبٰيهَا

    Transliteration

    Walā yakhāfu ʿuqbāhā

    Translation

    And He does not fear the consequence thereof.
