Surah At-Takwir in Arabic and English

1. 1 At-Takwir 81:1

   اِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Ithā alshshamsu kuwwirat

   Translation

   When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]

2. 2 At-Takwir 81:2

   وَاِذَا النُّجُومُ انْكَدَرَتْۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waithā alnnujoomu inkadarat

   Translation

   And when the stars fall, dispersing,

3. 3 At-Takwir 81:3

   وَاِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waithā aljibālu suyyirat

   Translation

   And when the mountains are removed

4. 4 At-Takwir 81:4

   وَاِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waithā alʿishāru ʿuṭṭilat

   Translation

   And when full-term she-camels are neglected

5. 5 At-Takwir 81:5

   وَاِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waithā alwuḥooshu ḥushirat

   Translation

   And when the wild beasts are gathered

6. 6 At-Takwir 81:6

   وَاِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waithā albiḥāru sujjirat

   Translation

   And when the seas are filled with flame

7. 7 At-Takwir 81:7

   وَاِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْۙۖ

   Transliteration

   Waithā alnnufoosu zuwwijat

   Translation

   And when the souls are paired

8. 8 At-Takwir 81:8

   وَاِذَا الْمَوْءُ۫دَةُ سُئِلَتْۙ

   Transliteration

   Waithā almawoodatu suilat

   Translation

   And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked

9. 9 At-Takwir 81:9

   بِاَيِّ ذَنْبٍ قُتِلَتْۚ

   Transliteration

   Biayyi thanbin qutilat

   Translation

   For what sin she was killed

10. 10 At-Takwir 81:10

    وَاِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Waithā alṣṣuḥufu nushirat

    Translation

    And when the pages are made public

11. 11 At-Takwir 81:11

    وَاِذَا السَّمَٓاءُ كُشِطَتْۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Waithā alssamāo kushiṭat

    Translation

    And when the sky is stripped away

12. 12 At-Takwir 81:12

    وَاِذَا الْجَحٖيمُ سُعِّرَتْۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Waithā aljaḥeemu suʿʿirat

    Translation

    And when Hellfire is set ablaze

13. 13 At-Takwir 81:13

    وَاِذَا الْجَنَّةُ اُزْلِفَتْۙۖ

    Transliteration

    Waithā aljannatu ozlifat

    Translation

    And when Paradise is brought near,

14. 14 At-Takwir 81:14

    عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَٓا اَحْضَرَتْؕ

    Transliteration

    ʿalimat nafsun mā aḥḏarat

    Translation

    A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].

15. 15 At-Takwir 81:15

    فَلَٓا اُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِۙ

    Transliteration

    Falā oqsimu bialkhunnasi

    Translation

    So I swear by the retreating stars -

16. 16 At-Takwir 81:16

    اَلْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِۙ

    Transliteration

    Aljawāri alkunnasi

    Translation

    Those that run [their courses] and disappear -

17. 17 At-Takwir 81:17

    وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا عَسْعَسَۙ

    Transliteration

    Waallayli ithā ʿasʿasa

    Translation

    And by the night as it closes in

18. 18 At-Takwir 81:18

    وَالصُّبْحِ اِذَا تَنَفَّسَۙ

    Transliteration

    Waalṣṣubḥi ithā tanaffasa

    Translation

    And by the dawn when it breathes

19. 19 At-Takwir 81:19

    اِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرٖيمٍۙ

    Transliteration

    Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareemin

    Translation

    [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger

20. 20 At-Takwir 81:20

    ذٖي قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكٖينٍۙ

    Transliteration

    Thee quwwatin ʿinda thee alʿarshi makeenin

    Translation

    [Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],

21. 21 At-Takwir 81:21

    مُطَاعٍ ثَمَّ اَمٖينٍؕ

    Transliteration

    Muṭāʿin thamma ameenin

    Translation

    Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.

22. 22 At-Takwir 81:22

    وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمْ بِمَجْنُونٍۚ

    Transliteration

    Wamā ṣāḥibukum bimajnoonin

    Translation

    And your companion is not [at all] mad.

23. 23 At-Takwir 81:23

    وَلَقَدْ رَاٰهُ بِالْاُفُقِ الْمُبٖينِۚ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad raāhu bialofuqi almubeeni

    Translation

    And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon.

24. 24 At-Takwir 81:24

    وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنٖينٍۚ

    Transliteration

    Wamā huwa ʿalā alghaybi biḏaneenin

    Translation

    And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.

25. 25 At-Takwir 81:25

    وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَجٖيمٍۚ

    Transliteration

    Wamā huwa biqawli shayṭānin rajeemin

    Translation

    And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].

26. 26 At-Takwir 81:26

    فَاَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَؕ

    Transliteration

    Faayna tathhaboona

    Translation

    So where are you going?

27. 27 At-Takwir 81:27

    اِنْ هُوَ اِلَّا ذِ كْرٌ لِلْعَالَمٖينَۙ

    Transliteration

    In huwa illā thikrun lilʿālameena

    Translation

    It is not except a reminder to the worlds

28. 28 At-Takwir 81:28

    لِمَنْ شَٓاءَ مِنْكُمْ اَنْ يَسْتَقٖيمَ

    Transliteration

    Liman shāa minkum an yastaqeema

    Translation

    For whoever wills among you to take a right course.

29. 29 At-Takwir 81:29

    وَمَا تَشَٓاؤُ۫نَ اِلَّٓا اَنْ يَشَٓاءَ اللّٰهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمٖينَ

    Transliteration

    Wamā tashāoona illā an yashāa Allāhu rabbu alʿālameena

    Translation

    And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds.
