Surah Al-Jinn in Arabic and English

1. 1 Al-Jinn 72:1

   قُلْ اُو۫حِيَ اِلَيَّ اَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُٓوا اِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْاٰناً عَجَباًۙ

   Transliteration

   Qul ooḥiya ilayya annahu istamaʿa nafarun mina aljinni faqāloo innā samiʿnā qurānan ʿajabān

   Translation

   Say, [O Muhammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur'an.

2. 2 Al-Jinn 72:2

   يَهْدٖٓي اِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَاٰمَنَّا بِهٖؕ وَلَنْ نُشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَٓا اَحَداًۙ

   Transliteration

   Yahdee ilā alrrushdi faāmannā bihi walan nushrika birabbinā aḥadān

   Translation

   It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.

3. 3 Al-Jinn 72:3

   وَاَنَّهُ تَعَالٰى جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَداًۙ

   Transliteration

   Waannahu taʿālā jaddu rabbinā mā ittakhatha ṣāḥibatan walā waladān

   Translation

   And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son

4. 4 Al-Jinn 72:4

   وَاَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفٖيهُنَا عَلَى اللّٰهِ شَطَطاًۙ

   Transliteration

   Waannahu kāna yaqoolu safeehunā ʿalā Allāhi shaṭaṭān

   Translation

   And that our foolish one has been saying about Allah an excessive transgression.

5. 5 Al-Jinn 72:5

   وَاَنَّا ظَنَنَّٓا اَنْ لَنْ تَقُولَ الْاِنْسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَى اللّٰهِ كَذِباًۙ

   Transliteration

   Waannā thanannā an lan taqoola alinsu waaljinnu ʿalā Allāhi kathibān

   Translation

   And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie.

6. 6 Al-Jinn 72:6

   وَاَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِنَ الْاِنْسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقاًۙ

   Transliteration

   Waannahu kāna rijālun mina alinsi yaʿoothoona birijālin mina aljinni fazādoohum rahaqān

   Translation

   And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.

7. 7 Al-Jinn 72:7

   وَاَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا كَمَا ظَنَنْتُمْ اَنْ لَنْ يَبْعَثَ اللّٰهُ اَحَداًۙ

   Transliteration

   Waannahum thannoo kamā thanantum an lan yabʿatha Allāhu aḥadān

   Translation

   And they had thought, as you thought, that Allah would never send anyone [as a messenger].

8. 8 Al-Jinn 72:8

   وَاَنَّا لَمَسْنَا السَّمَٓاءَ فَوَجَدْنَاهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَساً شَدٖيداً وَشُهُباًۙ

   Transliteration

   Waannā lamasnā alssamāa fawajadnāhā muliat ḥarasan shadeedan washuhubān

   Translation

   And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

9. 9 Al-Jinn 72:9

   وَاَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَاعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِؕ فَمَنْ يَسْتَمِعِ الْاٰنَ يَجِدْ لَهُ شِهَاباً رَصَداًۙ

   Transliteration

   Waannā kunnā naqʿudu minhā maqāʿida lilssamʿi faman yastamiʿi alāna yajid lahu shihāban raṣadān

   Translation

   And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.

10. 10 Al-Jinn 72:10

    وَاَنَّا لَا نَدْرٖٓي اَشَرٌّ اُرٖيدَ بِمَنْ فِي الْاَرْضِ اَمْ اَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَداًۙ

    Transliteration

    Waannā lā nadree asharrun oreeda biman fee alarḏi am arāda bihim rabbuhum rashadān

    Translation

    And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.

11. 11 Al-Jinn 72:11

    وَاَنَّا مِنَّا الصَّالِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذٰلِكَؕ كُنَّا طَرَٓائِقَ قِدَداًۙ

    Transliteration

    Waannā minnā alṣṣāliḥoona waminnā doona thālika kunnā ṭarāiqa qidadān

    Translation

    And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.

12. 12 Al-Jinn 72:12

    وَاَنَّا ظَنَنَّٓا اَنْ لَنْ نُعْجِزَ اللّٰهَ فِي الْاَرْضِ وَلَنْ نُعْجِزَهُ هَرَباًۙ

    Transliteration

    Wannā thanannā an lan nuʿjiza Allāha fee alarḏi walan nuʿjizahu harabān

    Translation

    And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

13. 13 Al-Jinn 72:13

    وَاَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا الْهُدٰٓى اٰمَنَّا بِهٖؕ فَمَنْ يُؤْمِنْ بِرَبِّهٖ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْساً وَلَا رَهَقاًۙ

    Transliteration

    Waannā lammā samiʿnā alhudā āmannā bihi faman yumin birabbihi falā yakhāfu bakhsan walā rahaqān

    Translation

    And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.

14. 14 Al-Jinn 72:14

    وَاَنَّا مِنَّا الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا الْقَاسِطُونَؕ فَمَنْ اَسْلَمَ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا رَشَداً

    Transliteration

    Waannā minnā almuslimoona waminnā alqāsiṭoona faman aslama faolāika taḥarraw rashadān

    Translation

    And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course.

15. 15 Al-Jinn 72:15

    وَاَمَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَباًۙ

    Transliteration

    Waamā alqāsiṭoona fakānoo lijahannama ḥaṭabān

    Translation

    But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'

16. 16 Al-Jinn 72:16

    وَاَنْ لَوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرٖيقَةِ لَاَسْقَيْنَاهُمْ مَٓاءً غَدَقاًۙ

    Transliteration

    Waallawi istaqāmoo ʿalā alṭṭareeqati laasqaynāhum māan ghadaqān

    Translation

    And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision

17. 17 Al-Jinn 72:17

    لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فٖيهِۚ وَمَنْ يُعْرِضْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّهٖ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَاباً صَعَداًۙ

    Transliteration

    Linaftinahum feehi waman yuʿriḏ ʿan thikri rabbihi yaslukhu ʿathāban ṣaʿadān

    Translation

    So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment.

18. 18 Al-Jinn 72:18

    وَاَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلّٰهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللّٰهِ اَحَداًۙ

    Transliteration

    Waanna almasājida lillāhi falā tadʿoo maʿa Allāhi aḥadān

    Translation

    And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.

19. 19 Al-Jinn 72:19

    وَاَنَّهُ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَداًؕࣖ

    Transliteration

    Waannahu lammā qāma ʿabdu Allāhi yadʿoohu kādoo yakoonoona ʿalayhi libadān

    Translation

    And that when the Servant of Allah stood up supplicating Him, they almost became about him a compacted mass."

20. 20 Al-Jinn 72:20

    قُلْ اِنَّمَٓا اَدْعُوا رَبّٖي وَلَٓا اُشْرِكُ بِهٖٓ اَحَداً

    Transliteration

    Qul innamā adʿoo rabbee walā oshriku bihi aḥadān

    Translation

    Say, [O Muhammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone."

21. 21 Al-Jinn 72:21

    قُلْ اِنّٖي لَٓا اَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَراًّ وَلَا رَشَداً

    Transliteration

    Qul innee lā amliku lakum ḏarran walā rashadān

    Translation

    Say, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction."

22. 22 Al-Jinn 72:22

    قُلْ اِنّٖي لَنْ يُجٖيرَنٖي مِنَ اللّٰهِ اَحَدٌ وَلَنْ اَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهٖ مُلْتَحَداًۙ

    Transliteration

    Qul innee lan yujeeranee mina Allāhi aḥadun walan ajida min doonihi multaḥadān

    Translation

    Say, "Indeed, there will never protect me from Allah anyone [if I should disobey], nor will I find in other than Him a refuge.

23. 23 Al-Jinn 72:23

    اِلَّا بَلَاغاً مِنَ اللّٰهِ وَرِسَالَاتِهٖؕ وَمَنْ يَعْصِ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَاِنَّ لَهُ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدٖينَ فٖيهَٓا اَبَداًؕ

    Transliteration

    Illā balāghan mina Allāhi warisālātihi waman yaʿṣi Allāha warasoolahu fainna lahu nāra jahannama khālideena feehā abadān

    Translation

    But [I have for you] only notification from Allah, and His messages." And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.

24. 24 Al-Jinn 72:24

    حَتّٰٓى اِذَا رَاَوْا مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ اَضْعَفُ نَاصِراً وَاَقَلُّ عَدَداً

    Transliteration

    Ḥattā ithā raaw mā yooʿadoona fasayaʿlamoona man aḏʿafu nāṣiran waaqallu ʿadadān

    Translation

    [The disbelievers continue] until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number.

25. 25 Al-Jinn 72:25

    قُلْ اِنْ اَدْرٖٓي اَقَرٖيبٌ مَا تُوعَدُونَ اَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُ رَبّٖٓي اَمَداً

    Transliteration

    Qul in adree aqareebun mā tooʿadoona am yajʿalu lahu rabbee amadān

    Translation

    Say, "I do not know if what you are promised is near or if my Lord will grant for it a [long] period."

26. 26 Al-Jinn 72:26

    عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلٰى غَيْبِهٖٓ اَحَداًۙ

    Transliteration

    ʿālimu alghaybi falā yuthhiru ʿalā ghaybihi aḥadān

    Translation

    [He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone

27. 27 Al-Jinn 72:27

    اِلَّا مَنِ ارْتَضٰى مِنْ رَسُولٍ فَاِنَّهُ يَسْلُكُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهٖ رَصَداًۙ

    Transliteration

    Illā mani irtaḏā min rasoolin fainnahu yasluku min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi raṣadān

    Translation

    Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before each messenger and behind him observers

28. 28 Al-Jinn 72:28

    لِيَعْلَمَ اَنْ قَدْ اَبْلَغُوا رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَاَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَاَحْصٰى كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَداً

    Transliteration

    Liyaʿlama an qad ablaghoo risālāti rabbihim waaḥāṭa bimā ladayhim waaḥṣā kulla shayin ʿadadān

    Translation

    That he may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord; and He has encompassed whatever is with them and has enumerated all things in number.
