Surah Al-Muzzammil in Arabic and English

1. 1 Al-Muzzammil 73:1

   يَٓا اَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُۙ

   Transliteration

   Yā ayyuhā almuzzammilu

   Translation

   O you who wraps himself [in clothing],

2. 2 Al-Muzzammil 73:2

   قُمِ الَّيْلَ اِلَّا قَلٖيلاًۙ

   Transliteration

   Qumi allayla illā qaleelān

   Translation

   Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little -

3. 3 Al-Muzzammil 73:3

   نِصْفَهُٓ اَوِ انْقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلٖيلاًۙ

   Transliteration

   Niṣfahu awi onquṣ minhu qaleelān

   Translation

   Half of it - or subtract from it a little

4. 4 Al-Muzzammil 73:4

   اَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْاٰنَ تَرْتٖيلاًؕ

   Transliteration

   Aw zid ʿalayhi warattili alqurāna tarteelān

   Translation

   Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation.

5. 5 Al-Muzzammil 73:5

   اِنَّا سَنُلْقٖي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلاً ثَقٖيلاًؕ

   Transliteration

   Innā sanulqee ʿalayka qawlan thaqeelān

   Translation

   Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word.

6. 6 Al-Muzzammil 73:6

   اِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ الَّيْلِ هِيَ اَشَدُّ وَطْـٔاً وَاَقْوَمُ قٖيلاًؕ

   Transliteration

   Inna nāshiata allayli hiya ashaddu waṭan waaqwamu qeelān

   Translation

   Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words.

7. 7 Al-Muzzammil 73:7

   اِنَّ لَكَ فِي النَّهَارِ سَبْحاً طَوٖيلاًؕ

   Transliteration

   Inna laka fee alnnahāri sabḥan ṭaweelān

   Translation

   Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation.

8. 8 Al-Muzzammil 73:8

   وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ اِلَيْهِ تَبْتٖيلاًؕ

   Transliteration

   Waothkuri isma rabbika watabattal ilayhi tabteelān

   Translation

   And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion.

9. 9 Al-Muzzammil 73:9

   رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكٖيلاً

   Transliteration

   Rabbu almashriqi waalmaghribi lā ilāha illā huwa faittakhithhu wakeelān

   Translation

   [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs.

10. 10 Al-Muzzammil 73:10

    وَاصْبِرْ عَلٰى مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْراً جَمٖيلاً

    Transliteration

    Waiṣbir ʿalā mā yaqooloona waohjurhum hajran jameelān

    Translation

    And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.

11. 11 Al-Muzzammil 73:11

    وَذَرْنٖي وَالْمُكَذِّبٖينَ اُو۬لِي النَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلٖيلاً

    Transliteration

    Watharnee waalmukaththibeena olee alnnaʿmati wamahhilhum qaleelān

    Translation

    And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little.

12. 12 Al-Muzzammil 73:12

    اِنَّ لَدَيْنَٓا اَنْكَالاً وَجَحٖيماًۙ

    Transliteration

    Inna ladaynā ankālan wajaḥeemān

    Translation

    Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire

13. 13 Al-Muzzammil 73:13

    وَطَعَاماً ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَاباً اَلٖيماً

    Transliteration

    Waṭaʿāman thā ghuṣṣatin waʿathāban aleemān

    Translation

    And food that chokes and a painful punishment -

14. 14 Al-Muzzammil 73:14

    يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْاَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثٖيباً مَهٖيلاً

    Transliteration

    Yawma tarjufu alarḏu waaljibālu wakānati aljibālu katheeban maheelān

    Translation

    On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down.

15. 15 Al-Muzzammil 73:15

    اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْـنَٓا اِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولاً شَاهِداً عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَٓا اَرْسَلْـنَٓا اِلٰى فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولاًؕ

    Transliteration

    Innā arsalnā ilaykum rasoolan shāhidan ʿalaykum kamā arsalnā ilā firʿawna rasoolān

    Translation

    Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.

16. 16 Al-Muzzammil 73:16

    فَعَصٰى فِرْعَوْنُ الرَّسُولَ فَاَخَذْنَاهُ اَخْذاً وَبٖيلاً

    Transliteration

    Faʿaṣā firʿawnu alrrasoola faakhathnāhu akhthan wabeelān

    Translation

    But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.

17. 17 Al-Muzzammil 73:17

    فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ اِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْماً يَجْعَلُ الْوِلْدَانَ شٖيباًࣗ

    Transliteration

    Fakayfa tattaqoona in kafartum yawman yajʿalu alwildāna sheebān

    Translation

    Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired?

18. 18 Al-Muzzammil 73:18

    اَلسَّمَٓاءُ مُنْفَطِرٌ بِهٖؕ كَانَ وَعْدُهُ مَفْعُولاً

    Transliteration

    Alssamāo munfaṭirun bihi kāna waʿduhu mafʿoolān

    Translation

    The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled.

19. 19 Al-Muzzammil 73:19

    اِنَّ هٰذِهٖ تَذْكِرَةٌۚ فَمَنْ شَٓاءَ اتَّخَذَ اِلٰى رَبِّهٖ سَبٖيلاًࣖ

    Transliteration

    Inna hāthihi tathkiratun faman shāa ittakhatha ilā rabbihi sabeelān

    Translation

    Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way.

20. 20 Al-Muzzammil 73:20

    اِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ اَنَّكَ تَقُومُ اَدْنٰى مِنْ ثُلُثَيِ الَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُ وَثُلُثَهُ وَطَٓائِفَةٌ مِنَ الَّذٖينَ مَعَكَؕ وَاللّٰهُ يُقَدِّرُ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَؕ عَلِمَ اَنْ لَنْ تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْرَؤُ۫ا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْاٰنِؕ عَلِمَ اَنْ سَيَكُونُ مِنْكُمْ مَرْضٰىۙ وَاٰخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِي الْاَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللّٰهِۙ وَاٰخَرُونَ يُقَاتِلُونَ فٖي سَبٖيلِ اللّٰهِؗ فَاقْرَؤُ۫ا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُۙ وَاَقٖيمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ وَاَقْرِضُوا اللّٰهَ قَرْضاً حَسَناًؕ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا لِاَنْفُسِكُمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ هُوَ خَيْراً وَاَعْظَمَ اَجْراًؕ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللّٰهَؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُورٌ رَحٖيمٌ

    Transliteration

    Inna rabbaka yaʿlamu annaka taqoomu adnā min thuluthayi allayli waniṣfahu wathuluthahu waṭāifatun mina allatheena maʿaka waAllāhu yuqaddiru allayla waalnnahāra ʿalima an lan tuḥṣoohu fatāba ʿalaykum faiqraoo mā tayassara mina alqurāni ʿalima an sayakoonu minkum marḏā waākharoona yaḏriboona fee alarḏi yabtaghoona min faḏli Allāhi waākharoona yuqātiloona fee sabeeli Allāhi faiqraoo mā tayassara minhu waaqeemoo alṣṣalāta waātoo alzzakāta waaqriḏoo Allāha qarḏan ḥasanan wamā tuqaddimoo lianfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu ʿinda Allāhi huwa khayran waaʿthama ajran waistaghfiroo Allāha inna Allāha ghafoorun raḥeemun

    Translation

    Indeed, your Lord knows, [O Muhammad], that you stand [in prayer] almost two thirds of the night or half of it or a third of it, and [so do] a group of those with you. And Allah determines [the extent of] the night and the day. He has known that you [Muslims] will not be able to do it and has turned to you in forgiveness, so recite what is easy [for you] of the Qur'an. He has known that there will be among you those who are ill and others traveling throughout the land seeking [something] of the bounty of Allah and others fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite what is easy from it and establish prayer and give zakah and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
