Surah Al-Qamar in Arabic and English

1. 1 Al-Qamar 54:1

   اِقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ

   Transliteration

   Iqtarabati alssāʿatu wainshaqqa alqamaru

   Translation

   The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].

2. 2 Al-Qamar 54:2

   وَاِنْ يَرَوْا اٰيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُسْتَمِرٌّ

   Transliteration

   Wain yaraw āyatan yuʿriḏoo wayaqooloo siḥrun mustamirrun

   Translation

   And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic."

3. 3 Al-Qamar 54:3

   وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُٓوا اَهْوَٓاءَهُمْ وَكُلُّ اَمْرٍ مُسْتَقِرٌّ

   Transliteration

   Wakaththaboo waittabaʿoo ahwāahum wakullu amrin mustaqirrun

   Translation

   And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.

4. 4 Al-Qamar 54:4

   وَلَقَدْ جَٓاءَهُمْ مِنَ الْاَنْـبَٓاءِ مَا فٖيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌۙ

   Transliteration

   Walaqad jāahum mina alanbāi mā feehi muzdajarun

   Translation

   And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence -

5. 5 Al-Qamar 54:5

   حِكْمَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُۙ

   Transliteration

   Ḥikmatun bālighatun famā tughnee alnnuthuru

   Translation

   Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].

6. 6 Al-Qamar 54:6

   فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ اِلٰى شَيْءٍ نُكُرٍۙ

   Transliteration

   Fatawalla ʿanhum yawma yadʿu alddāʿi ilā shayin nukurin

   Translation

   So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding,

7. 7 Al-Qamar 54:7

   خُشَّعًا اَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْاَجْدَاثِ كَاَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌۙ

   Transliteration

   Khushshaʿan abṣāruhum yakhrujoona mina alajdāthi kaannahum jarādun muntashirun

   Translation

   Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,

8. 8 Al-Qamar 54:8

   مُهْطِعٖينَ اِلَى الدَّاعِؕ يَقُولُ الْكَافِرُونَ هٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ

   Transliteration

   Muhṭiʿeena ilā alddāʿi yaqoolu alkāfiroona hāthā yawmun ʿasirun

   Translation

   Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."

9. 9 Al-Qamar 54:9

   كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ

   Transliteration

   Kaththabat qablahum qawmu nooḥin fakaththaboo ʿabdanā waqāloo majnoonun waizdujira

   Translation

   The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.

10. 10 Al-Qamar 54:10

    فَدَعَا رَبَّهُٓ اَنّٖي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ

    Transliteration

    Fadaʿā rabbahu annee maghloobun faintaṣir

    Translation

    So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."

11. 11 Al-Qamar 54:11

    فَفَتَحْنَٓا اَبْوَابَ السَّمَٓاءِ بِمَٓاءٍ مُنْهَمِرٍؗ

    Transliteration

    Fafataḥnā abwāba alssamāi bimāin munhamirin

    Translation

    Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down

12. 12 Al-Qamar 54:12

    وَفَجَّرْنَا الْاَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَالْتَقَى الْمَٓاءُ عَلٰٓى اَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَۚ

    Transliteration

    Wafajjarnā alarḏa ʿuyoonan failtaqā almāo ʿalā amrin qad qudira

    Translation

    And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.

13. 13 Al-Qamar 54:13

    وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلٰى ذَاتِ اَلْوَاحٍ وَدُسُرٍۙ

    Transliteration

    Waḥamalnāhu ʿalā thāti alwāḥin wadusurin

    Translation

    And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,

14. 14 Al-Qamar 54:14

    تَجْرٖي بِاَعْيُنِنَاۚ جَزَٓاءً لِمَنْ كَانَ كُفِرَ

    Transliteration

    Tajree biaʿyuninā jazāan liman kāna kufira

    Translation

    Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.

15. 15 Al-Qamar 54:15

    وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَاهَٓا اٰيَةً فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad taraknāhā āyatan fahal min muddakirin

    Translation

    And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?

16. 16 Al-Qamar 54:16

    فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابٖي وَنُذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Fakayfa kāna ʿathābee wanuthuri

    Translation

    And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

17. 17 Al-Qamar 54:17

    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّ كْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad yassarnā alqurāna lilththikri fahal min muddakirin

    Translation

    And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

18. 18 Al-Qamar 54:18

    كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابٖي وَنُذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Kaththabat ʿādun fakayfa kāna ʿathābee wanuthuri

    Translation

    'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

19. 19 Al-Qamar 54:19

    اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رٖيحًا صَرْصَرًا فٖى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّۙ

    Transliteration

    Innā arsalnā ʿalayhim reeḥan ṣarṣaran fee yawmi naḥsin mustamirrin

    Translation

    Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,

20. 20 Al-Qamar 54:20

    تَنْزِ عُ النَّاسَۙ كَاَنَّهُمْ اَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُنْقَعِرٍ

    Transliteration

    Tanziʿu alnnāsa kaannahum aʿjāzu nakhlin munqaʿirin

    Translation

    Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.

21. 21 Al-Qamar 54:21

    فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابٖي وَنُذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Fakayfa kāna ʿathābee wanuthuri

    Translation

    And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

22. 22 Al-Qamar 54:22

    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّ كْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍࣖ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad yassarnā alqurāna lilththikri fahal min muddakirin

    Translation

    And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

23. 23 Al-Qamar 54:23

    كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِالنُّذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Kaththabat thamoodu bialnnuthuri

    Translation

    Thamud denied the warning

24. 24 Al-Qamar 54:24

    فَقَالُٓوا اَبَشَرًا مِنَّا وَاحِدًا نَتَّبِعُهُٓۙ اِنَّٓا اِذًا لَفٖى ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ

    Transliteration

    Faqāloo abasharan minnā wāḥidan nattabiʿuhu innā ithan lafee ḏalālin wasuʿurin

    Translation

    And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.

25. 25 Al-Qamar 54:25

    ءَاُلْقِيَ الذِّ كْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ اَشِرٌ

    Transliteration

    Aolqiya alththikru ʿalayhi min bayninā bal huwa kaththābun ashirun

    Translation

    Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."

26. 26 Al-Qamar 54:26

    سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَنِ الْكَذَّابُ الْاَشِرُ

    Transliteration

    Sayaʿlamoona ghadan mani alkaththābu alashiru

    Translation

    They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.

27. 27 Al-Qamar 54:27

    اِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْؗ

    Transliteration

    Innā mursiloo alnnāqati fitnatan lahum fairtaqibhum waiṣṭabir

    Translation

    Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.

28. 28 Al-Qamar 54:28

    وَنَبِّئْهُمْ اَنَّ الْمَٓاءَ قِسْمَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْۚ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُحْتَضَرٌ

    Transliteration

    Wanabbihum anna almāa qismatun baynahum kullu shirbin muḥtaḏarun

    Translation

    And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn].

29. 29 Al-Qamar 54:29

    فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطٰى فَعَقَرَ

    Transliteration

    Fanādaw ṣāḥibahum fataʿāṭā faʿaqara

    Translation

    But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her].

30. 30 Al-Qamar 54:30

    فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابٖي وَنُذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Fakayfa kāna ʿathābee wanuthuri

    Translation

    And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

31. 31 Al-Qamar 54:31

    اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَكَانُوا كَهَشٖيمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ

    Transliteration

    Innā arsalnā ʿalayhim ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fakānoo kahasheemi almuḥtathiri

    Translation

    Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.

32. 32 Al-Qamar 54:32

    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّ كْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad yassarnā alqurāna lilththikri fahal min muddakirin

    Translation

    And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

33. 33 Al-Qamar 54:33

    كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ بِالنُّذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Kaththabat qawmu looṭin bialnnuthuri

    Translation

    The people of Lot denied the warning.

34. 34 Al-Qamar 54:34

    اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا اِلَّٓا اٰلَ لُوطٍۜ نَجَّيْنَاهُمْ بِسَحَرٍۙ

    Transliteration

    Innā arsalnā ʿalayhim ḥāṣiban illā āla looṭin najjaynāhum bisaḥarin

    Translation

    Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn

35. 35 Al-Qamar 54:35

    نِعْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَاؕ كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزٖي مَنْ شَكَرَ

    Transliteration

    Niʿmatan min ʿindinā kathālika najzee man shakara

    Translation

    As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful.

36. 36 Al-Qamar 54:36

    وَلَقَدْ اَنْذَرَهُمْ بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا بِالنُّذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad antharahum baṭshatanā fatamāraw bialnnuthuri

    Translation

    And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.

37. 37 Al-Qamar 54:37

    وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوهُ عَنْ ضَيْفِهٖ فَطَمَسْنَٓا اَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا عَذَابٖي وَنُذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad rāwadoohu ʿan ḏayfihi faṭamasnā aʿyunahum fathooqoo ʿathābee wanuthuri

    Translation

    And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."

38. 38 Al-Qamar 54:38

    وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُمْ بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُسْتَقِرٌّۚ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad ṣabbaḥahum bukratan ʿathābun mustaqirrun

    Translation

    And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.

39. 39 Al-Qamar 54:39

    فَذُوقُوا عَذَابٖي وَنُذُرِ

    Transliteration

    Fathooqoo ʿathābee wanuthuri

    Translation

    So taste My punishment and warning.

40. 40 Al-Qamar 54:40

    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍࣖ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad yassarnā alqurāna lilththikri fahal min muddakirin

    Translation

    And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

41. 41 Al-Qamar 54:41

    وَلَقَدْ جَٓاءَ اٰلَ فِرْعَوْنَ النُّذُرُۚ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad jāa āla firʿawna alnnuthuru

    Translation

    And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.

42. 42 Al-Qamar 54:42

    كَذَّبُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَاَخَذْنَاهُمْ اَخْذَ عَزٖيزٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ

    Transliteration

    Kaththaboo biāyātinā kullihā faakhathnāhum akhtha ʿazeezin muqtadirin

    Translation

    They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.

43. 43 Al-Qamar 54:43

    اَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ اُو۬لٰٓئِكُمْ اَمْ لَكُمْ بَرَٓاءَةٌ فِي الزُّبُرِۚ

    Transliteration

    Akuffārukum khayrun min olāikum am lakum barāatun fee alzzuburi

    Translation

    Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scripture?

44. 44 Al-Qamar 54:44

    اَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمٖيعٌ مُنْتَصِرٌ

    Transliteration

    Am yaqooloona naḥnu jameeʿun muntaṣirun

    Translation

    Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?

45. 45 Al-Qamar 54:45

    سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ

    Transliteration

    Sayuhzamu aljamʿu wayuwalloona alddubura

    Translation

    [Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].

46. 46 Al-Qamar 54:46

    بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ اَدْهٰى وَاَمَرُّ

    Transliteration

    Bali alssāʿatu mawʿiduhum waalssāʿatu adhā waamarru

    Translation

    But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.

47. 47 Al-Qamar 54:47

    اِنَّ الْمُجْرِمٖينَ فٖي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍۘ

    Transliteration

    Inna almujrimeena fee ḏalālin wasuʿurin

    Translation

    Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.

48. 48 Al-Qamar 54:48

    يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِي النَّارِ عَلٰى وُجُوهِهِمْؕ ذُوقُوا مَسَّ سَقَرَ

    Transliteration

    Yawma yusḥaboona fee alnnāri ʿalā wujoohihim thooqoo massa saqara

    Translation

    The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."

49. 49 Al-Qamar 54:49

    اِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ

    Transliteration

    Innā kulla shayin khalaqnāhu biqadarin

    Translation

    Indeed, all things We created with predestination.

50. 50 Al-Qamar 54:50

    وَمَٓا اَمْرُنَٓا اِلَّا وَاحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍ بِالْبَصَرِ

    Transliteration

    Wamā amrunā illā wāḥidatun kalamḥin bialbaṣari

    Translation

    And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.

51. 51 Al-Qamar 54:51

    وَلَقَدْ اَهْلَكْنَٓا اَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

    Transliteration

    Walaqad ahlaknā ashyāʿakum fahal min muddakirin

    Translation

    And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?

52. 52 Al-Qamar 54:52

    وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِي الزُّبُرِ

    Transliteration

    Wakullu shayin faʿaloohu fee alzzuburi

    Translation

    And everything they did is in written records.

53. 53 Al-Qamar 54:53

    وَكُلُّ صَغٖيرٍ وَكَبٖيرٍ مُسْتَطَرٌ

    Transliteration

    Wakullu ṣagheerin wakabeerin mustaṭarun

    Translation

    And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.

54. 54 Al-Qamar 54:54

    اِنَّ الْمُتَّقٖينَ فٖي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَهَرٍۙ

    Transliteration

    Inna almuttaqeena fee jannātin wanaharin

    Translation

    Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,

55. 55 Al-Qamar 54:55

    فٖي مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَ مَلٖيكٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ

    Transliteration

    Fee maqʿadi ṣidqin ʿinda maleekin muqtadirin

    Translation

    In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.
